Israel Adesanya Opens Up On Emotional Toll Of Recent Setbacks After Crushing TKO Loss At UFC Seattle: “It’s Harder On Me”
Recent professional challenges appear to be taking a significant emotional toll on Israel Adesanya.
Adesanya made his return to the octagon last Saturday, ending a year-long hiatus to face Joe Pyfer in the main event of UFC Seattle. Unfortunately, the comeback for the former two-time UFC middleweight titleholder was unsuccessful, culminating in a brutal second-round TKO loss.
Despite initial successes in striking and defending takedowns, "The Last Stylebender" was eventually caught with a punch while standing, leading to him being taken to the mat. Once on the ground, Pyfer gained control and delivered a relentless barrage of blows, forcing the referee to halt the fight.
This recent loss represents the 36-year-old veteran's fourth consecutive defeat and third straight stoppage, building on a knockout loss to Nassourdine Imavov at UFC Saudi Arabia in February 2025. His struggles also include a prior submission loss to Dricus Du Plessis during their championship bout at UFC 305 in August 2024.
Israel Adesanya Discusses the Mental Burden of His Challenging UFC Streak
Israel Adesanya recently used social media to comment on his defeat by Joe Pyfer at UFC Seattle. He acknowledged the potential disappointment of his fans while highlighting the profound personal impact this demanding period in his career has had on him.
Nevertheless, the Nigerian-born New Zealander conveyed his unwavering resolve, pledging to come back with renewed strength.
“I understand it’s tough for my supporters to witness my setbacks. I assure you, it’s even tougher for me personally. Regardless, we will reset and continue onward,” Adesanya posted on Instagram.
In his post-fight Octagon interview this past weekend, "The Last Stylebender" rejected any suggestions of retirement despite his current difficulties, reiterating his commitment to continue fighting.
Adesanya previously dominated the UFC middleweight category, defending his championship five times against notable opponents such as Robert Whittaker, Yoel Romero, and Paulo Costa. However, his recent performance shows a 1–5 record in his last six fights. His overall promotional record stands at 13–6, with five victories secured by knockout.
