Tom Aspinall Eyes Winner of Pereira vs. Gane for UFC Heavyweight Unification
UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall has publicly stated his desire to face the winner of the highly anticipated interim heavyweight title bout between Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane, scheduled for UFC Freedom 250.
The co-main event of the upcoming UFC White House card will see Alex Pereira attempt to achieve rare multi-divisional championship status as he challenges Ciryl Gane for the interim UFC Heavyweight Championship. The mixed martial arts community largely anticipates that Aspinall, once fully recovered, will return later this year to unify the heavyweight belts against the victor of this crucial matchup.
Aspinall has endured a challenging period in his UFC career. His recent association with Eddie Hearn could potentially add another layer of complexity to his relationship with UFC President Dana White, given the existing tension between White and Hearn.
In a recent video, Tom Aspinall shared his perspective on his future within the UFC following the announcement of the Pereira vs. Gane fight.
Aspinall Looks Forward
"Honestly, who else is there to fight?" Aspinall remarked on his YouTube channel. "The division is somewhat stagnant. There aren't many major fights available, so they have to proceed as planned."
"Naturally, I want to fight the winner of that bout," Aspinall affirmed. "I'm currently just waiting for the medical 'green light' – the full clearance from my doctor to resume proper training. As soon as I can return to full-contact training in the gym, we will promptly book a fight date to face the winner. It’s all dependent on getting medically cleared, and then we're good to go."
"Once my doctor clears me, we’ll inform the UFC immediately, and we'll be looking to secure a fight as soon as possible," he added.
While Aspinall's health remains the top priority, his potential return could lead to two immensely significant contests. A fight against Pereira would carry immense historical weight, while a rematch with Gane would offer a chance at redemption, given that Gane was the opponent when Aspinall suffered his initial injury.
