Michael Venom Page Is Bringing the Show: I Am the Main Event Always at UFC London
Michael "Venom" Page is set to make his return to the welterweight division this weekend at UFC London, following a successful period at middleweight. He will face fellow Brit and former training partner Sam Patterson on his home turf. This highly anticipated welterweight clash is featured on the main card, positioned just before the co-main event, a featherweight showdown between Luke Riley and Michael Aswell.
The main event of UFC London will see an intriguing high-stakes contest between undefeated top contenders Movsar Evloev and Lerone Murphy.
Michael "Venom" Page on Card Placement and Future Bouts
Despite his electrifying presence, Page had expressed initial frustration about not securing a co-main event slot and being matched with an unranked opponent. On media day, addressing whether he was disappointed about his placement on the card, "Venom" stated, "Again, it was part of the frustrations initially, but I used to say the same thing when I was at Bellator: no matter where you put me on the card, I am the main event."
Regarding whether a significant victory this weekend could secure him a bout against a ranked opponent next, Page, acknowledging the unpredictable nature of recent UFC matchmaking, admitted, "To be fair, I’m not sure. You never know. Things just change like the tides at sea." He affirmed his consistent goal: "But I’m always striving for a big KO. I’m always striving to entertain. I’m always striving to put highlight videos out to showcase how talented I am.”
Page further elaborated that he consistently aims to create memorable moments in the octagon, noting that spectacular, highlight-reel finishes are a natural outcome of his distinctive fighting style rather than something he actively chases.
Discussing his long-term ambitions in the UFC, "Venom" revealed his adaptability, stating he's "capable of just going anywhere," even considering a move to light heavyweight. However, his immediate focus remains on securing the welterweight title. He cautioned that if the top contenders in the 170-pound division continue to avoid fighting him, he might reconsider a return to the middleweight division. "It seems to be a struggle at welterweight, but my goal is the welterweight title. If the guys here continue to not want to fight me, then I might have to go up back up again and look at the middleweight belt.”
