Monaco Triumphs Over Dijon Despite Short-Handed Roster

The Monaco team, known as the Roca Team, initially showed great promise at the start of the season. However, financial difficulties led to the departure of several key players and their coach. While the financial issues appear to have been resolved, the squad has significantly diminished in size, a problem further compounded by injuries and player absences.

A number of important players were unavailable for the match. Mike James, who sustained a hamstring injury on March 12, had returned from the United States after receiving treatment but did not participate in the game against Dijon, observing from the stands. Daniel Theis was absent for undisclosed family reasons, and Nemanja Nedovic, injured in a prior match in Sarajevo, will be out for an entire month, prompting the team to seek a temporary replacement. Terry Tarpey was also not included in the team sheet.

Consequently, only seven professional players were fit to compete: Elie Okobo, Alpha Diallo, Kevarrius Hayes, Matthew Strazel, Nikola Mirotic, Juhann Begarin, and Jaron Blossomgame. These players bore a heavy workload, supported by young prospects Kyllian Michee and Maxim Klitschko. Under the guidance of Ukrainian coach Sergii Gladyr, the Monaco team quickly established dominance over Dijon, securing a 17-point lead (55-38) by halftime, despite Jordan Barnett's efforts. Although Dijon attempted a comeback in the second half, Monaco consistently maintained its advantage and was never truly threatened. Elie Okobo was particularly outstanding, scoring 23 points on an impressive 9/10 shooting accuracy, achieving an efficiency rating of 33.

The match unfortunately concluded with a contentious altercation. Juhann Begarin struck Quentin Losser, causing a visible facial injury and bleeding, which provoked Losser to attempt retaliation. However, he was quickly restrained by his teammates and Kevarrius Hayes. Both Begarin and Losser were disqualified from the game, and suspensions are anticipated, which could further deplete Monaco's roster for the remainder of the regular season.
