Joffrey Lauvergne Pays Emotional Tribute to Mentor Dusko Vujosevic
Dusko Vujosevic, who sadly passed away this Wednesday, leaves an indelible mark on the history of Partizan Belgrade. His storied career is particularly intertwined with that of French basketball player Joffrey Lauvergne. Notably, in 2014, Lauvergne achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first foreign player to be named captain of the Serbian club β a bold and unconventional choice that Vujosevic wholeheartedly supported.
Lauvergne's deep connection to his time in Serbia is evident; the center famously has the team's logo tattooed on his body, and earlier this year, he openly expressed his desire to conclude his professional career at Partizan. Following the announcement of his former coach's passing, the Frenchman, originally from Auvergne, took to his social media channels to share a powerful and heartfelt tribute.
Joffrey Lauvergne's emotional message read: "Dusko Vujosevic, you were not merely my coach. Outside of my family, you stand as the person who had the most profound influence on my life. You truly shaped me, you believed in me, and you helped me become a better individual, not just a better player. I will carry my gratitude for you forever. Rest in peace, General. I will never forget you."
