Muhammad Mokaev: ‘I’d Beat Joshua Van 10/10 Times’

MMA News

Former UFC flyweight contender Muhammad Mokaev expressed strong confidence in his ability to defeat current UFC champion Joshua Van, stating he could win against him ten times out of ten.

Mokaev, a British Dagestani fighter with a professional record of 15-0 and an undefeated amateur pedigree of 23-0, is considered one of the top flyweights. Despite his impressive performance and a notable UFC debut victory against Cody Durden in March 2022, he was released by the UFC due to behind-the-scenes issues. Mokaev has continued to hone his skills and remains active in his pursuit of a return to a major MMA organization.

An anticipated bout against Adriano Moraes on the Rousey vs. Carano MVP card in May was unfortunately cancelled due to visa complications.

Mokaev is now set to face veteran Jorge Calvo in Madrid this Saturday. While Calvo brings considerable experience with a 20-7 record, Mokaev’s skill level is considered significantly higher than any of Calvo’s previous opponents.

Mokaev Discusses Upcoming WOW Debut and UFC Aspirations

Ahead of his debut in WOW, Spain’s largest MMA organization, Mokaev spoke with Alvaro Colmenero on his YouTube channel, KOlmenero. He explained his decision to fight in Spain, citing a desire to explore new territories and connect with a global fanbase.

Regarding a potential return to the UFC, Mokaev discussed the current flyweight division and its champion. He believes his past successes in the UFC, including defeating fighters ranked within the top 15, position him for an immediate title contention. He stated, “When you beat everybody there and how confident I can be champion today.”

Mokaev’s remarks about Joshua Van were particularly pointed: “Champion’s name is Joshua Van, right? So my confidence and how much I love my career, I am ready to like retire if I don’t beat this guy, that’s how confident I can be champion today. Easy fight, easy money, I believe this is right now the perfect fight for me. I can beat him 10 times out of 10.”

This raises the question of whether Mokaev would be granted an immediate title shot upon his return to the UFC.
