Hiromasa Ougikubo Calls for a Knockout in His Rizin Landmark 14 Rematch and Declares a Title Defense Against Tony Laramie a “No-Brainer”

MMA News

Hiromasa Ougikubo is preparing for a prominent appearance at Rizin Landmark 14 on June 6th, where he will defend his RFF flyweight championship in a highly anticipated rematch against Makoto Shinryu. Reflecting on this upcoming clash, Ougikubo highlighted perceived differences in his opponent since their initial encounter at Super Rizin 3 in July 2024. He stated, as reported by Bowks Talking Bouts:

“Shinryu is still quite young, and it’s been two years. I believe young fighters can develop significantly in that time. He’s been training at ATT, and I’m certain his skill level has definitely increased. However, over the past two years, I’ve also honed many skills and feel I’ve leveled up as well. Therefore, I anticipate our second fight will showcase a much higher caliber of competition than our first.”

Another significant bout on the Rizin Landmark 14 card could serve as a title eliminator, though the reigning Rizin Fighting Federation 125-pound titleholder believes the outcome might influence its status. When discussing the potential for the winner of the Tony Laramie vs. Yuki Motoya fight to earn a shot at Rizin’s flyweight crown, Hiromasa Ougikubo commented, via Bowks Talking Bouts:

“I believe if Tony Laramie wins, if he defeats Motoya, and obviously if I defeat Shinryu, it would make perfect sense for me to defend my title against Tony Laramie. I consider that a no-brainer. However, if Motoya wins and I defend my title, I’m uncertain if that particular fight would be the most logical next step. Ultimately, the decision will rest with Rizin.”

“I intend to knock him out in my first title defense. So, I urge everyone to tune in and witness me finish this fight decisively.”
