Juventus Eyes Goalies from Toulouse, Porto, and Olympiacos
Juventus is actively searching for a new goalkeeper to strengthen their squad. While several clubs are reportedly vying for Guglielmo Vicario, the Bianconeri are shifting their focus from established veterans such as Alisson and Emiliano Martinez towards promising young international prospects. Among the names currently under close consideration are Guillaume Restes from Toulouse, Diogo Costa of Porto, and Konstantinos Tzolakis from Olympiacos.
Guillaume Restes appears to be a favored candidate within Juventus management, particularly by CEO Damien Comolli, who previously observed his development at Toulouse. Restes made his Ligue 1 debut shortly after turning 18 and has since amassed 101 appearances, recording 28 clean sheets while conceding 129 goals. He also served as the goalkeeper for the French Olympic Team in 2024, contributing to their silver medal win. His estimated transfer value is approximately €20 million.
While Restes has significant backing, there's also a preference within the club for a more experienced professional who wouldn't require an adjustment period at a major club. Diogo Costa, at 26, represents a potential middle ground, given his extensive experience playing at a high level for Porto over several years. His name has reportedly been part of discussions with agent Jorge Mendes, which also touched upon Bernardo Silva. However, Costa comes with a substantial price tag, estimated between €45 and €50 million. At this valuation, Juventus might consider alternatives like Marco Carnesecchi.
Furthermore, Juventus scouts recently visited Greece to monitor Konstantinos Tzolakis. During this trip, they also evaluated other promising players, including Ernest Poku and Christos Mouzakitis.
Our Perspective on Juventus's Goalkeeper Search
The ultimate decision for Juventus's next goalkeeper will likely be influenced by several factors. There are questions surrounding the long-term role of CEO Comolli and the implications of his past departure from Toulouse concerning Restes's potential transfer. Recent experiences with goalkeepers signed from smaller clubs, regardless of their talent, might also prompt caution, especially following previous instances of players struggling to adapt to the demands of a top-tier team.
