AC Milan Targets Bellanova and Zaniolo for Summer Reinforcements
AC Milan is reportedly planning to strengthen its squad this summer, with two established Serie A talents, Raoul Bellanova and Nicolò Zaniolo, emerging as potential targets. Their availability, however, stems from contrasting circumstances.
According to reports from TuttoSport (via Fantacalcio), Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri is keen to add at least one more wingback. Raoul Bellanova, currently with Atalanta, has faced challenges returning to top form this season after a significant thigh injury, losing his starting position to Davide Zappacosta and Lorenzo Bernasconi. Despite Milan's contact with his representatives, a deal for Bellanova is complex. Atalanta initially invested €25 million to sign him from Torino. His status as a homegrown player for the San Siro club could, however, be advantageous for squad registration rules. Bellanova's potential departure is linked to his dissatisfaction with his current role.
In contrast, Nicolò Zaniolo could be looking for a move back to a prominent club after a highly successful season at Udinese, a player admired by the Milan coach. Following a series of less impactful stints, the attacking midfielder has thrived in Friuli, contributing six goals and six assists to date. Udinese is expected to exercise their €10 million buyout clause from Galatasaray. Nevertheless, they might consider a quick resale if a compelling offer materializes.
Our Perspective on Milan's Targets:
Milan faces a busy transfer window, needing to address a somewhat shallow roster that was stretched thin this season. Their strategy will likely involve more than just high-profile signings. Bellanova's career trajectory has been inconsistent, and his initial transfer fee was substantial, meaning any offer from Milan would need to be significant. Atalanta might opt to retain him, hoping he regains his form and value next season. Zaniolo, on the other hand, has been outstanding. While a return to a major club is tempting, another season at Udinese could further solidify his impressive turnaround, proving its legitimacy and long-term viability.
