AC Milan Secures Kostic, Abandons Pursuit of André
AC Milan has finalized the transfer of Andrej Kostic, despite initial objections from some Partizan officials. Meanwhile, the club has reportedly ended its pursuit of André, as a significant offer failed to secure the Corinthians talent, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The Rossoneri reached a €3 million agreement with the Serbian club, including a resale clause. Partizan's vice president, Pedrag Mijatovic, publicly expressed dissatisfaction, deeming the transfer fee too low and claiming insufficient information. Despite this controversy, the deal proceeded, with Kostic successfully completing his medical examination and signing the contract. The 19-year-old, who has scored 10 league goals, is expected to join Milan's Futuro (youth/reserve) squad in July.
While Milan swiftly secured Kostic, their attempt to sign André proved unsuccessful. Although some local sources indicated an improved €22 million bid for 70 percent of André's economic rights, Corinthians did not confirm this. Milan reportedly halted negotiations after Corinthians allegedly went back on an earlier agreement.
The Rossoneri are generally unwilling to engage in bidding wars. Corinthians chairman, Osmar Stabile, ultimately did not approve the transfer, despite legal teams having finalized preliminary paperwork following an initial understanding.
Our Take on Milan, Kostic, and André
Acquiring André at the reported figures would have been a notable move, given his potential and established presence. However, Milan's need for another central midfielder might only arise if Luka Modric opts to leave or retire after his inaugural season at San Siro. While Modric has yet to make a decision, his strong performance this season and Milan's participation in the upcoming UEFA Champions League make such a departure seem unlikely.
