NHL Rumors: Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers, and Nashville Predators

Ottawa Senators Will Not Trade Brady Tkachuk Unless Forced

According to NHL Network’s Elliotte Friedman, the Ottawa Senators have no intention of trading captain Brady Tkachuk. The team will only consider such a move if Tkachuk himself requests a trade and explicitly states his desire to move on. Friedman indicated that both the Senators organization and Tkachuk are sensitive to the situation, and the team will not initiate a trade unless they are “absolutely told they have to do it.”

Three Bold Moves for the Nashville Predators

As the Nashville Predators search for a new General Manager, Alex Daugherty of The Tennessean has outlined three potential bold strategies the team could consider, in addition to upcoming free agent decisions.

  • Buyout Jonathan Marchessault: If a trade partner cannot be found for Marchessault, whose contract has three years remaining at $5.5 million annually, a buyout could offer significant cap relief. A buyout would save the Predators $1.2 million on the cap next season, $2.3 million in savings for the following two years, followed by a $961,000 cap hit for years four through six. This move would also reduce Matt Duchene’s dead cap space to $1.5 million next season.
  • Trade for Philadelphia Flyers’ Matvei Michkov: Despite a dip in his numbers this past season, the Predators could potentially entice the Flyers with a trade package including a 2026 first and third-round pick, along with 2023 first-round pick Tanner Molendyk.
  • Offer Sheet Jason Robertson of the Dallas Stars: Robertson is reportedly seeking a contract around $12 million per year. An offer sheet in the range of $9.3 million to $11.7 million would cost the Predators two first-round picks, a second, and a third. Exceeding $11.7 million would require four first-round picks, a steep price that the Stars may find difficult to match.
