Roma Nearing Contract Extensions for Key Veterans Mancini and Cristante
AS Roma aims to reduce its overall wage bill, but this initiative will not impact the future of Gianluca Mancini and Bryan Cristante, both of whom are poised to sign new contract extensions. Their current agreements run until 2027, and the Giallorossi are keen to finalize these extensions before the current campaign concludes, according to reports.
Representatives for both players have reportedly reached a preliminary agreement with the club's management. Only the final approval from the ownership is pending before the contracts are officially signed and announced. Mancini and Cristante have been earning approximately €3 million annually in recent years, a figure that is said to be below the club's internal salary cap, even with a modest increase.
Both Mancini and Cristante previously played under Gian Piero Gasperini at Atalanta and have remained integral parts of the squad since Roma appointed the veteran coach. The defender, Mancini, made his move to Rome for €24 million in 2020, while the midfielder, Cristante, joined for €30 million in 2019.
While Roma is committed to retaining this duo, Paulo Dybala's future with the club remains uncertain, and discussions regarding Lorenzo Pellegrini's contract are still ongoing. Dybala recently underwent knee surgery to remove a torn meniscus, after experiencing discomfort for about a month. Director Frederic Massara commented on Dybala's situation prior to the Genoa match, stating:
“His injury will not influence his contract extension, as we haven't discussed a new deal with him yet. It wouldn't be appropriate to do so now. His absence does not impact our strategic plans or our relationship with him.”
