Real Madrid fans expressed a desire to fill the Movistar Arena for their Euroleague playoff series against Hapoel Tel Aviv. Following discussions with local authorities, the Madrid club secured permission to host approximately 8,000 spectators, with tickets exclusively available to season ticket holders.
This decision, aimed at ensuring fairness and enhancing the series’ appeal, has brought security concerns to the forefront. Given the potential for anti-Israeli sentiment among some Spanish fans due to government actions, a significant security presence is anticipated. Eurohoops reports that around 450 police officers will be stationed near the arena for each game in the Spanish capital.
Hapoel Forced to Relocate
Meanwhile, Hapoel Tel Aviv has also faced significant disruptions to their plans. Initially expecting to play their playoff games in Israel, the team has been forced to alter their venue. The 8888 Arena in Sofia, where they concluded their regular season, is unavailable, compelling the Israeli team to play in Botevgrad with a likely reduced capacity.
