Winnipeg Jets General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff recently addressed the team’s key priorities for the upcoming offseason and provided an update on Head Coach Scott Arniel’s future.
When questioned about the primary focus for strengthening the roster, especially considering many core players achieved career-best seasons, Cheveldayoff emphasized that it’s too early to define specific priorities. He stated that the immediate focus is on completing the exit process and reflecting on the past season. The team is not yet ready to definitively ‘turn the page’ and will take their time to analyze the situation thoroughly.
Cheveldayoff explained that before significant external discussions can begin, each team must undergo its own evaluation and process, acknowledging the various levels of disappointment experienced by teams eliminated from contention. He also noted the importance of observing the Manitoba Moose’s progress and evaluating internal players who may have an opportunity to fill roster needs.
Regarding Head Coach Scott Arniel’s position, Cheveldayoff indicated that the coaching staff, like the players, will undergo an evaluation process. He acknowledged the hard work and preparation of the entire coaching staff, recognizing their efforts to provide players with the best possible opportunities. However, he refrained from making any definitive pronouncements, stressing the importance of a comprehensive evaluation for the organization, its fans, and the players. The team will continue to assess all aspects before making future decisions.
