Spanish Basketball Federation Reports Record Number of Licensed Players
The Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) has announced a record number of registered players for the fourth consecutive year, marking a strong recovery and consistent growth following the decline observed during the 2020 and 2021 pandemic years.
The total number of male licenses reached 289,322, while female licenses climbed to 163,770. The growth rates were remarkably similar across genders, with an increase of 6,327 male licensees and 6,338 female licensees.
Basketball currently stands out as the sport with the highest number of female participants in Spain. In 2024, football ranked second with 109,874 licenses, followed by mountaineering and climbing with 105,053 licenses, highlighting basketball's leading role in women's sports engagement.
Despite this impressive growth, the Spanish Federation's total number of licensees is considerably lower than that of its French counterpart, the FFBB, which recorded 747,005 licensed players by the end of the 2024-25 season. This difference can be contextualized by the population disparity between the two countries, with Spain having approximately 49 million inhabitants compared to France's 69.1 million.
