BCL: Le Mans Stumbles in Vilnius

Having secured a 78-72 victory in the first leg, Le Mans Sarthe Basket (MSB) experienced a challenging outing in Vilnius. Despite a stellar performance from Trevor Hudgins, who scored 28 points on 10/18 shooting, the team endured devastating scoring droughts, particularly in the final quarter where they were outscored 32-10.

To secure second place in their group on the final matchday and qualify for the Top 8, Guillaume Vizade's squad faces a critical path. They must defeat Hapoël Holon at Antarès, and additionally, Vilnius needs to suffer a defeat against Galatasaray in Istanbul.

While Vilnius was missing the injured Martynas Paliukėnas (5.6 efficiency rating), Le Mans continued to play without their starting center, Wilfried Yeguete (Jonathan Jeanne saw 4 minutes of action, picking up 3 fouls). However, this wasn't the sole reason for Le Mans' sluggish start, as they found themselves trailing 0-9 in a turbulent first quarter. Trevor Hudgins, with 12 points, was instrumental in keeping them competitive, ending the quarter with a score of 28-25.

MSB maintained its game plan by halftime, trailing slightly at 45-41, and even managed to take the lead in the third quarter. Nevertheless, they suffered a decisive setback when the score rapidly shifted from 62-61 to 69-61, leading to a relentless 14-point run by Rytas. Le Mans failed to recover from this dramatic turn of events.

Le Mans struggled significantly to contain Vilnius's Simonas Lukosius, Kay Bruhnke, and Gytis Masiulis, who collectively shot an impressive 12/16 from three-point range. In stark contrast, Le Mans' own key shooters, David Di Léo (2 points on 1/8 shooting) and Johnny Berhanemeskel (5 points), underperformed significantly.
