Newcastle United is reportedly set to compete for the signing of highly-rated defender Jonathan Tah.
The 29-year-old German international will be available on a free transfer this summer, attracting significant interest from a host of prominent clubs.
Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich are all rumoured to be interested in the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back.
Sources indicate that Newcastle is also actively monitoring the player`s situation.
Manager Eddie Howe is keen to bolster his team`s defence ahead of the next season as he aims to build a squad capable of challenging for top honours.
His primary defensive target remains Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, who is widely expected to leave Selhurst Park, with Chelsea also reportedly interested.
Newcastle previously made a substantial £70 million bid for the England and Crystal Palace star approximately a year ago.
However, Tah is considered another viable option, and reports from Germany suggest he is eager for a move to the Premier League.
Real Madrid`s potential advantage in securing Tah`s signature could be boosted if Bayer Leverkusen`s current coach, Xabi Alonso, takes over from Carlo Ancelotti at the Bernabeu.
Bayern Munich would offer Tah the chance to continue playing in the Bundesliga, while Barcelona`s pursuit is reportedly complicated by ongoing financial issues affecting player registration.
The German international, who has been capped 35 times, has already confirmed his departure from Leverkusen after a decade with the club.
During his ten years at Leverkusen, he made an impressive 400 appearances and was part of the team that won the Bundesliga title and DFB Pokal last season.
