The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is making its historic debut in Serbia, with the promotion confirming that UFC Fight Night Belgrade will take place on Saturday, August 1st, at the Belgrade Arena. This marks the country’s first official UFC event, following persistent rumors earlier in the year. UFC Europe announced the news as the Octagon’s inaugural visit to Serbia, while local reports specifically linked the date and venue to Belgrade’s major arena.
UFC Announces Belgrade Debut, Setting First Serbia Event for August 1
While Serbia has been represented in the UFC for years through its fighters, the company had not previously hosted a live event there. UFC’s own reporting in 2022 highlighted Serbian athletes Duško Todorović and Uroš Medić as significant figures in the sport’s development within the country. These fighters, among others on the roster, have consistently maintained Serbia’s visibility on the international MMA stage. Consequently, this expansion feels long overdue for many fans in the region.
Belgrade has also established itself as a viable market for combat sports, providing the UFC with a receptive audience for this event. The regional promotion FNC has successfully held major events in the city, including a significant card at Štark Arena in 2024, demonstrating the venue and local fans’ familiarity with large-scale MMA competitions. Local media coverage of the UFC’s announcement identified the August 1st event as taking place in the Belgrade Arena, further indicating the UFC’s confidence in the city as a host for a Fight Night event.
Speculation regarding a Serbian event had been circulating prior to the official confirmation. Reports in February suggested that the UFC was considering Belgrade for an event in 2026, with one rumor even pointing to a mid-May date. However, no concrete plans were finalized at that time. The recent announcement resolves this uncertainty, confirming the debut card for August 1st and integrating it into the UFC’s broader 2026 international schedule, which already includes events in other locations such as Baku on June 27th.
As of now, the UFC has not yet revealed the specific fight card for the event. However, the company has launched a registration page for interested fans. For Serbian MMA enthusiasts, this confirmation alone represents a momentous occasion: after years of anticipation, the UFC is finally bringing the Octagon to Belgrade.
