Louis Labeyrie (Strasbourg): “We Weren’t Smart” Amidst Team Slump

Sports News

After a promising start to the season, French basketball club Strasbourg (SIG) is now facing a significant downturn. The team has suffered five defeats in its last six matches, including a recent 95-76 loss to Boulazac, leaving them on a challenging streak.

Head coach Janis Gailitis openly expressed his disappointment regarding the team’s performance. Gailitis stated:

“Matches like these don’t depend much on tactics or game science, but rather on what you have in your heart. The opponent was more physical, we missed our shots, and they pulled away. We failed; we must work on our mentality and the necessity of putting in effort throughout the entire game.”

Player Louis Labeyrie, who had made a strong return to the SIG lineup last weekend against Cholet, echoed the coach’s sentiments. Labeyrie commented:

“We weren’t smart because the opponent made a lot of noise and gestures. We lacked passion. We had all the weapons to resist, and we lacked a bit of conviction and coolness.”
