Jérôme Sanchez, a seasoned basketball player with a 19-season career spanning five clubs – Bourg, Villeurbanne, Nantes, Boulazac, and La Rochelle – is being celebrated by the city of La Rochelle tonight. His tenure with La Rochelle culminated in a French Pro B championship title in 2024.
“For my professional project, I’ve decided to end my career at the end of the season. It’s a well-thought-out decision, as a new project awaits me in the fall. My family and I have fallen in love with La Rochelle. We want to thrive and continue to grow here. My wife, Delphine, works at the Stade, so even though I’m leaving the court, my family remains (laughs)! We’ll definitely cross paths again in the stands of Gaston Neveur. But the season isn’t over yet; there are still games left, and we’ll do everything we can to finish strong!”
This marks the end of an extensive playing career for Sanchez, who has left a significant mark on French basketball. The move to La Rochelle signifies a desire for him and his family to establish roots in the city, even as he transitions to a new professional path. His wife’s continued involvement with the local sports club ensures a connection to the community.
