A former UFC fighter has embarked on a new path of public service following his departure from professional mixed martial arts.
Marlon Moraes, who announced his retirement from MMA in June 2023 after a first-round knockout loss at PFL 4, joined the Coral Springs Police Department as a police officer in May 2024.
Now known as “Magic,” Moraes patrols the streets of South Florida during the night shift. He recently shared with CBS News that his primary motivation for joining the police force is a desire to help and serve the community.
“Every time I go to work, I want to help someone,” Moraes stated. “When the call comes, I want to be the one.”
Deputy Chief Ryan Gallagher of the Coral Springs Police Department spoke highly of Moraes, emphasizing his professionalism and strong dedication to community service.
“I found a professional, compassionate, charismatic individual who wants to serve the community,” Gallagher remarked.
Marlon Moraes’ UFC Record
Marlon Moraes was a competitor in the UFC from June 2017 to March 2022. After a split decision loss in his UFC debut at UFC 212, Moraes secured a notable four-fight winning streak, including victories over Aljamain Sterling and John Dodson, which earned him a bantamweight title shot.
However, his championship aspirations were cut short when he was defeated by Henry Cejudo via third-round knockout at UFC 238 in June 2019. His last career win came later that year against Jose Aldo.
Following this victory, Moraes experienced a difficult seven-fight losing streak, marked by knockouts, across both the UFC and PFL before retiring with an overall professional record of 23 wins, 13 losses, and 1 draw. His UFC record stood at 5 wins and 6 losses.
