New York Rangers’ Offseason Aggression and Vincent Trocheck

New York Rangers General Manager Chris Drury discussed the team’s approach to the offseason, particularly regarding forward Vincent Trocheck and the exploration of further trade opportunities. Drury highlighted the difference between the trade deadline and the offseason, noting that the latter allows for broader roster evaluations and adjustments due to less cap space restriction and more league-wide team retooling.

“If you look at it, they’re kind of two different cycles in the season, right? The trade deadline, there’s limited buyers, there’s limited cap space. It’s not the offseason,” Drury stated. “The rosters aren’t being reshuffled or retooled across the league. So going into the offseason, as I said, we’re going to review and take a look at everything within the roster, within the organization. We’re always going to try to make the best moves we can for the short-term and long-term health of the organization.”

Toronto Maple Leafs Face Decision on Matias Maccelli

The Toronto Maple Leafs face a significant decision regarding pending restricted free agent (RFA) forward Matias Maccelli. The incoming General Manager will need to determine whether to extend a qualifying offer of $4.11 million to the 25-year-old. If not, Maccelli could become an unrestricted free agent (UFA). Maccelli has expressed a desire to remain with the Maple Leafs.

Maccelli posted 14 goals and 25 assists in 70 games, primarily playing in the top-six. While he is on the smaller side, similar to teammates Max Domi and Nick Robertson, his inconsistency and defensive struggles have been noted. Maccelli, along with Robertson, Jacob Quillan, and Ryan Tverberg, is arbitration-eligible.

Vancouver Canucks Not Yet Interested in Lawrence Gillman

As of Friday morning, the Vancouver Canucks have not yet contacted the Columbus Blue Jackets to inquire about defenseman Lawrence Gillman.

Chicago Blackhawks Scout Caleb Malhotra; Potential Canucks Scenario

Jeff Marek discussed the Chicago Blackhawks’ interest in forward Caleb Malhotra, noting that the team has been closely observing him throughout the season, particularly in relation to the 2026 NHL Draft. This scouting has led to speculation about a potential scenario involving the Canucks and the Malhotra name.

Reporting suggests a situation where if the Canucks secure the 3rd overall pick in the upcoming draft lottery, they might not hire Manny Malhotra for a coaching role due to Caleb’s presence. This could lead to the Canucks losing Malhotra if they fail to win either of the two lotteries, a scenario described as “the most Canucks thing ever.”
