Chris Weidman Discusses UFC Hall of Fame Induction
“It’s a tremendous honor – I was completely caught off guard by it,” Weidman told MMA Junkie Radio. “I was not expecting it at all. I was working the desk, and they asked me and Dustin (Poirier) to walk down cageside so they could pan a camera over to us during one of the fights to promote the post-fight show. Dustin and I were both thinking the same thing.
“We were like, ‘It’s a bit strange. Why can’t they just get that same shot from the desk?’ But they had a plan. They surprised me. I was completely clueless, and it was an awesome surprise, and I’m honored. It was very exciting, and it’s been such a long road, and to receive that love and be honored with the ultimate honor you can get is truly remarkable.”
“After I had my first loss, I experienced many defeats,” Weidman reflected. “Thank goodness they measure you from your prime. Because if they were to consider my post-prime, I wouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame. I’m glad I accomplished some great things while I was younger, and it’s wonderful to be respected for that.”
Weidman is set to compete in wrestling this weekend in a highly anticipated grudge match against Colby Covington.
