Anthony Edwards Receives Throwback SuperSonics Jersey from Gary Payton

NBA News

Anthony Edwards delivered a remarkable performance (30 points, 5 assists) against the Golden State Warriors on Monday, leaving a strong impression on a basketball legend.

Following the Minnesota Timberwolves` victory over the Warriors (117-110) at the Chase Center, which gave them a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference semifinals, Anthony Edwards was met with MVP chants as he left the court. He then went up to former Seattle SuperSonics star point guard Gary Payton and hugged him.

In return, Edwards received a signed retro SuperSonics jersey from Payton.

Edwards commented on the exchange, stating, “I went up to him because I hear all the stories about him, and watching his film confirmed how good he was. I told him I`m a big fan and really liked his defense, noting he also had a great offensive game.”

Edwards also took the opportunity to praise Payton`s son, Gary Payton II, who plays guard for the Warriors.

Edwards noted the defensive similarities, saying, “His son plays defense somewhat like him. He`s very handsy and physical.”

In the Western Conference semifinals so far, Edwards is averaging 27.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 4 assists. His 30-point performance in Game 4 marked the 13th time he has scored 30 or more points in his playoff career.
