Alex Pereira Says He Feels ‘Exactly the Same’ at 250 Pounds Before Ciryl Gane Clash

MMA News

Alex Pereira, the UFC’s two-division champion, is set to make his heavyweight debut on June 14th at the White House, facing Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight championship. This fight marks a historic moment, as Pereira aims to become the first fighter in the promotion’s history to win titles in three different weight classes.

After relinquishing his light heavyweight title earlier this year, Pereira has been increasing his weight in preparation for the move to heavyweight. He acknowledges that gaining this extra mass has likely affected his speed, but maintains that he feels no different. In a recent statement, he expressed:

“I feel exactly the same. Obviously, it’s not possible to bulk up to a much higher weight class, get bigger, and not lose maybe a little bit of speed. We’ll see in the fight. But I feel exactly the same. I’ve just added, but haven’t lost anything.”

Expert Analysis on Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane

Many in the mixed martial arts community consider this to be Pereira’s most challenging fight to date. Heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has predicted that Gane will defeat “Poatan” by decision, highlighting Gane’s size and fluidity: “Gane is a massive heavyweight who moves a lot, moves really, really well, is really fluid on his feet.”

Similarly, Michael Bisping observed Pereira’s recent sparring footage and concluded that Gane will possess a significant speed advantage: “Ciryl Gane is going to have the speed advantage. He’s also going to be lighter on the feet.”

Adding to Gane’s advantages, he will reportedly hold a two-inch reach advantage over Pereira on June 14th, which is reportedly the longest reach Pereira has ever faced in the UFC.
