UFC CEO Dana White has provided an update on the anticipated middleweight bout between champion Dricus Du Plessis and contender Khamzat Chimaev. White confirmed that the fight is indeed scheduled to happen, but contrary to earlier expectations, it will not be part of the UFC 317 card in June.
During a recent press conference, White addressed the status of the fight. He stated, “Yes, yesterday I announced several fights, but [Chimaev vs. Du Plessis] was not among them. We all know that the fight between Chimaev and Du Plessis will take place, but not during the International Fight Week. The match is scheduled, but it will happen in a different location.” This clarifies that while the matchup is set, fans will need to wait for details on the specific date and venue.
It`s worth recalling that prior to this confirmation, speculation arose regarding a potential injury to Du Plessis, which could have sidelined him for a significant period. However, the champion himself later publicly denied these injury rumors.
