Dallas Stars and Dylan Larkin: A Questionable Fit
Recent reports indicate the Dallas Stars have inquired about the asking price for Dylan Larkin from the Detroit Red Wings, with some speculation even suggesting a trade involving Jason Robertson. However, such a move may not be strategically sound for the Stars.
The Stars already boast a strong center depth with Wyatt Johnston, Matt Duchene, and Roope Hintz. Duchene struggled when moved to the wing last season, and while Hintz could potentially play there, he doesn’t possess Robertson’s scoring prowess. While it’s understandable for the Stars to explore their options and gauge Larkin’s cost, exchanging Robertson for him doesn’t appear to be a logical move for the team.
Analyzing Mock Trades for Dylan Larkin
Beyond the Stars, several other NHL teams have been linked to Dylan Larkin through mock trade scenarios. Here’s a look at potential deals involving the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, and Vegas Golden Knights:
Florida Panthers Proposal:
Red Wings receive: Anton Lundell, 2026 9th overall pick, 2026 2nd round pick
Panthers receive: Dylan Larkin and Sebastian Cossa
This deal seems to overvalue Larkin by including Lundell and a high draft pick. However, the Panthers do have a significant need for goaltending as Sergei Bobrovsky is an upcoming unrestricted free agent, and they lack a contracted goalie for next season. The inclusion of Cossa could address this concern.
Minnesota Wild Proposal:
Red Wings receive: Charlie Stramel, Danila Yurov, 2027 1st round pick
Wild receive: Dylan Larkin
The Red Wings are in need of help down the middle, and this package offers potential middle-six center options. While neither Stramel nor Yurov may project as top-line centers, they could fill important roles. Stramel’s stock has risen following a strong season at Michigan State.
Vegas Golden Knights Proposal:
Red Wings receive: Pavel Dorofeyev (RFA) and Tomas Hertl
Golden Knights receive: Dylan Larkin
The Golden Knights appear to be overpaying in this scenario, but it would provide them with significant salary cap flexibility. Hertl has four years remaining on his contract with a $6.75 million AAV. Vegas currently has limited cap space and is looking to re-sign Rasmus Andersson.
