Topuria on Makhachev: “It’s a pity he ran away”

MMA News

Former UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria has issued a statement following the official announcement regarding the upcoming UFC 317 event.

Details revealed that Topuria is set to face Charles Oliveira in the main event on June 28 in Las Vegas, USA. This bout will be contested for the undisputed lightweight championship. The fight for this title became available after Islam Makhachev reportedly decided to pursue a move to the welterweight division for a potential clash with the current champion, Jack Della Maddalena.

Reacting to the news and confirming his next fight, Topuria shared his thoughts on social media platform X (formerly Twitter): “On June 28, another dream will come true. I will become the champion in the lightweight division. Charles, I apologize in advance… I am just fighting for my dream. It’s a pity that Makhachev ran away. 17-0.”
