The Nashville Predators GM Search, and Kade O’Rourke Looking for Exceptional Status

Nashville Predators GM Search Advances to In-Person Interviews

The Nashville Predators have intensified their search for a new general manager, reportedly moving into the in-person interview stage. According to hockey insider Elliotte Friedman, the Predators sought permission to interview Carolina Hurricanes GM Eric Tulsky but were denied. However, they did receive approval to speak with one of Carolina’s assistant general managers.

Friedman indicated that several assistant GMs from other NHL organizations are among the candidates who may have been interviewed this week. These include Brett Peterson from the Florida Panthers, Scott White from the Dallas Stars, and Bill Scott from the Edmonton Oilers.

An intriguing new name to emerge as a potential candidate is Darren York, who serves as the General Manager for the Chicago Wolves, Carolina’s AHL affiliate. York, who has been with the Hurricanes organization for 17 years, reportedly had an in-person interview with the Predators, suggesting a deeper pool of talent being considered for the crucial role.

Texas-Born Kade O’Rourke Applies for Exceptional Status in the OHL

In other hockey news, 15-year-old Kade O’Rourke, a rising talent originally from Texas, has reportedly applied for exceptional player status to enter the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) draft next year. This development was highlighted by Elliotte Friedman following the OHL Cup final, where O’Rourke showcased his skills playing for the Toronto Junior Canadians.

O’Rourke, who moved to Toronto four years ago, drew significant attention for a stunning goal he scored in the semi-final. While Hockey Canada typically does not confirm such applications, sources suggest that O’Rourke has indeed submitted his request for exceptional status.

Experts who have observed O’Rourke believe he is unequivocally ready for the OHL. This application is particularly noteworthy because no “pure-bred American” player has ever been granted exceptional status in the OHL; previous recipient Sean Day held dual Canadian-American citizenship. There is a strong sentiment that the OHL is eager to bring O’Rourke into the league, recognizing the immense potential and draw he represents. Friedman echoed this, questioning why the league wouldn’t embrace the opportunity to place such a gifted player where they can best develop and entertain.
