The wait is over for ASVEL’s supporters! After weeks of speculation, fans in the Rhône region can finally relax. As announced by the new coach Tony Parker, Sylvain Francisco is indeed ASVEL’s new point guard, a move the club officially confirmed this Tuesday.
In Villeurbanne, the former Parisian player will spearhead the highly ambitious new project initiated by TP. Parker, who sought a ‘franchise player,’ has secured the runner-up to Sasha Vezenkov in this year’s Euroleague MVP race. This signing is a testament to the attractiveness of the club.
Francisco, in the prime of his career, has just concluded an exceptional season, highlighted by winning the Lithuanian championship for the second consecutive year with Zalgiris Kaunas. His Euroleague performance was outstanding, averaging 16.5 points and 6.5 assists per game.
After five seasons abroad, with stints in Spain, Greece, Germany, and Lithuania, the French international is set to return to the Betclic Élite. He has signed a three-year contract, keeping him with the club until 2029. During his last and only previous spell in the top French basketball league, he made a significant impact with Chorale de Roanne, averaging 14.7 points and 4.7 assists per game.
