Veteran mixed martial artist Yoel Romero offered his perspective on current UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria`s anticipated move to the lightweight division.
Romero praised Topuria`s strength at featherweight, stating his belief that Topuria will be “practically unbeatable” at lightweight. He referenced Topuria`s reported walk-around weight of 82 kg (approximately 181 lbs), suggesting that if Topuria can successfully cut to 66 kg (145 lbs) and recover, moving up to 70 kg (155 lbs) will be even easier, allowing him to maintain his speed, reaction, and endurance.
Romero concluded on his podcast that “The time has come for Ilia,” asserting that he will be “very difficult to defeat” in the lightweight division.
Separately, it was noted that Topuria recently announced the commencement of his training camp. According to rumors, he is expected to compete at UFC 317, which is speculated to take place in Las Vegas at the end of June.
