Rodrigo Vera couldn’t have wished for a more impactful introduction to the UFC.
Making a last-minute appearance at UFC Macau, the Peruvian fighter wasted no time making his mark, achieving a decisive first-round stoppage against Zhu Kangjie, a previous winner of “Road to UFC,” on Saturday at the Galaxy Arena.
Vera displayed remarkable composure from the outset, quickly taking command of the fight. The 30-year-old consistently landed his strikes ahead of Zhu in the initial exchanges, ultimately landing the knockout blow less than two minutes into the bout.
A precisely timed left hook connected cleanly with the Chinese fighter’s chin, sending him to the mat. “El Gato Loco” swiftly followed up with additional strikes, prompting the referee to halt the contest at the 1:50 mark of the first round.
Earlier this year, “El Gato Loco” narrowly missed out on securing a place on Season 34 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” as he was not selected for either Michael Bisping’s or Daniel Cormier’s teams.
With this victory, Rodrigo Vera enhances his professional record to 22 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw. He also extends his impressive winning streak to 14 consecutive fights, firmly establishing himself as a new contender to watch in the Octagon.
