Macklin Celebrini Extension Eligible, Connor Bedard’s Pending RFA Deal

NHL News

David Pagnotta of NHL Network provided insights into the contract situations of two prominent young players: Macklin Celebrini of the San Jose Sharks and Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Regarding Macklin Celebrini, who is eligible to sign an extension starting July 1st, Pagnotta noted that while there’s no immediate urgency as he still has another year on his contract, his situation will be closely watched, especially in comparison to other pending restricted free agents. Celebrini is expected to be a future MVP candidate.

For Connor Bedard, who is a pending restricted free agent, contract extension talks with the Blackhawks have resumed. Pagnotta indicated there might be an initial gap in expectations regarding the financial terms, which is common in the early stages of negotiations. If a longer-term deal is reached, Bedard could command upwards of $15 million per season. However, a shorter-term contract, possibly spanning three to four years, might fall in the $12 million per season range, with Chicago reportedly aiming closer to $10 million at this early stage.

Pagnotta emphasized that both sides understand a deal will be made, and there is no cause for concern at this point, as the negotiations are in their very initial phases.
