Premier League release blunt statement after Man Utd fans claim Adams ‘nearly killed Garnacho’ with vicious lunge

Premier League officials have defended the referee`s decision not to send off Tyler Adams during the match between Bournemouth and Manchester United.

The Bournemouth midfielder received only a yellow card for a forceful tackle on Alejandro Garnacho.

Adams appeared to have both feet off the ground when making the challenge on the Argentine player in the first half.

Referee Peter Bankes showed the American player a yellow card.

This decision was supported by VAR following a review by the video assistant.

The Premier League later issued a statement via their official Match Centre X account, confirming that the yellow card decision was checked and upheld by VAR.

The statement clarified: “The referee’s call of yellow card for the challenge by Adams on Garnacho was checked and confirmed by VAR. The challenge deemed reckless and not serious foul play.”

Reacting online, many fans expressed outrage, arguing it should have been a red card and claiming Adams` challenge was excessively dangerous.

Some fans compared it to previous incidents, citing Marcus Rashford`s red card last season for a similar challenge, calling the decision inconsistent and a “joke”.

Others suggested potential bias, remarking that a Manchester United player like Casemiro might have been sent off for the same tackle.

Shortly after the incident, Bournemouth took the lead through forward Antoine Semenyo.

Manchester United supporters were further angered by the officials later in the half regarding two penalty appeals.

Harry Maguire seemed to be fouled twice within the penalty area, appearing to be dragged down.

However, the referee`s on-field decision of no penalty was supported by VAR, which did not advise Peter Bankes to review either incident on the pitchside monitor.
