Oliveira’s Manager Explains How Makhachev Could Lose His Title

MMA News

Diego Lima, the manager of Charles Oliveira, shared his perspective on the potential move of UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev to the welterweight division.

Lima stated his belief that if Makhachev were to move up in weight, he would lose his title, drawing a comparison to Topuria. He suggested that the UFC might be prompting Makhachev to make a choice. Lima argued that if Makhachev decides to compete at 77 kg (welterweight), the promotion would be obligated to introduce an interim lightweight title.

“You can`t just put an entire division on hold. In my opinion, it`s absurd,” Lima commented. He emphasized that when a fighter moves up a weight class, they should either vacate their current championship or an interim title must be established to ensure the division continues to progress.
