Toronto Maple Leafs Coaching Interviews Begin This Week

The Toronto Maple Leafs are set to commence their in-person coaching interviews this week as part of phase two of their search. Reports suggest they have narrowed down their candidate pool to approximately five individuals. Among the reported candidates for the Maple Leafs’ coaching position are Joe Pavelski and Patrick Roy. While Jay Woodcroft is believed to still be in contention, confirmation remains pending.

Potential Brendan Gallagher Trade Between Canucks and Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens are reportedly exploring options to move forward Brendan Gallagher, who has expressed a willingness to play for the Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks have shown some interest in acquiring Gallagher. He has one year remaining on his contract, with a $6.5 million cap hit and a $4 million salary. Gallagher’s agent, Gerry Johansson, indicated on the Donnie and Dhali Show that while the Canucks initially expressed interest, their own team’s “moving parts” could affect the feasibility of a deal. Johansson stated that the matter is on their desk and there is interest, but the transaction hinges on whether it can be finalized.

Minnesota Wild Roster Speculations

Regarding the Minnesota Wild, if Charlie Stramel is not traded, he is expected to receive a significant opportunity at training camp. An ankle injury sidelined him for the end of the season, preventing him from playing in any professional games. While not projected as a future top-line center, he could potentially fill a middle-six role. Questions persist about the Wild’s pursuit of a No. 1 center. It’s assumed that Kirill Kaprizov and Matt Boldy are not on the trade block. If the Wild were to target a player like Dylan Larkin from the Detroit Red Wings, a potential package could include Danil Yurov, Stramel, a first-round pick, and possibly a lesser player such as Ryan Hartman or Yakov Trenin if acquiring a forward, or Jonas Brodin or Jake Middleton if looking for a defenseman. Middleton’s no-movement clause is in effect until July 1st. The Wild’s management is looking to inject more youth and speed into their bottom six. General Manager Bill Guerin has stated that players will need to outperform veterans to earn a spot. Coach Jon Hynes is expected to receive a contract extension this offseason. Restricted free agent forward Bobby Brink is anticipated to sign a bridge deal.
