On Tuesday, a significant meeting involving the NBA, FIBA, and Euroleague is slated to occur. Marca reports that Chus Bueno, the CEO of Euroleague, will represent his organization, while George Aivazoglou, the NBA’s General Manager for Europe and the Middle East, will attend as the NBA’s representative.
As previously confirmed by Adam Silver, the NBA intends to collaborate with Euroleague and unite for a potential NBA Europe project. This follows Chus Bueno’s succession of Paulius Motiejunas as Euroleague CEO.
Marca also indicates that a primary objective for all involved parties is to prevent fragmentation within basketball competitions. The goal is to avoid a repeat of the 2000-01 season, which saw European basketball divided between Euroleague and the short-lived FIBA Suproleague.
“For the good of European basketball, it would be preferable for us to join Euroleague,” stated NBA Commissioner Adam Silver on March 26th, following a meeting of the American league’s board of directors. “We should then define a strategy for the development of basketball in Europe. This involves complementing national championships and collaborating with Euroleague and FIBA.”
