Defending welterweight champion Justin Burlinson secured his title nearly a year ago in Dublin against James Sheehan. This weekend, his inaugural title defense will also occur in a hostile environment. Burlinson experienced a setback in 2021, suffering a first-round knockout loss on DWCS to Yohan Lainesse. At the time of that fight, Burlinson was an inexperienced 6-0.
Although he rebounded with a victory, Burlinson faced another defeat in 2022 when he competed for the Cage Warriors 170lbs belt for the first time, losing to Rhys McKee. Since then, he has remained undefeated and maintained a perfect finishing rate. Burlinson is known for his exciting fighting style and showcased remarkable resilience in his title win against Sheehan.
Burlinson had a second opportunity in the UFC spotlight at the end of 2025, traveling to Doha for the inaugural UFC Qatar event, hoping for a late call-up. However, the opportunity did not materialize. This weekend, Burlinson returns to Cage Warriors, aiming to earn his shot in the promotion through a more decisive performance.
Sean Clancy Jr.: Destined for UFC Gold?
At just 23 years old and fighting out of Paisley, Scotland, Sean Clancy Jr. is considered one of the most promising talents in the sport. This Saturday, he aims to further fuel the immense anticipation surrounding him. With an undefeated record of 8-0 and a perfect finishing rate, similar to the English champion, Clancy Jr. poses a threat in all aspects of the fight. His rapid striking and aggressive grappling make him a strong contender for championship material.
The Scottish fighter has been on the cusp of welterweight contention for some time. In December, he captured the interim belt with an outstanding performance. Due to Burlinson’s unavailability at the end of 2025, Clancy Jr. faced experienced Dutchman Melvin van Suijdam for the interim title.
