The Vancouver Canucks have reportedly reached out to the Toronto Maple Leafs, seeking permission to interview Shane Doan, who currently serves as a special advisor to the Maple Leafs’ general manager. The specific role Doan might be considered for by the Canucks remains undisclosed. This development comes as Vancouver’s President, Jim Rutherford, has indicated a potential departure following the hiring of a new general manager, suggesting the Canucks may be exploring candidates for positions beyond just the GM role.
Meanwhile, the search for the Toronto Maple Leafs’ next general manager is narrowing. Sources indicate that Evan Gold, assistant GM for the Boston Bruins, and Ryan Martin, assistant GM for the New York Rangers, are among the finalists. The team is expected to conduct further in-person interviews this week with additional candidates.
Chris Pronger has addressed speculation surrounding his potential involvement in the Maple Leafs’ general manager search, clarifying that he did not interview for the position. While acknowledging the existence of “vicious rumors,” Pronger stated that he has not interviewed for the GM role and expressed that he is content with his current “next chapter” in the media. He also mentioned being open to future opportunities but emphasized that fit and timing are crucial factors.
