Prominent Irish UFC welterweight Ian Garry recently discussed his claimed encounter with Kazakh fighter Shavkat Rakhmonov, which he stated took place in December of last year.
Garry asserted his strong belief regarding the bout, stating, “I still believe that I did not lose that fight.” He elaborated on his perspective, suggesting Rakhmonov “was struggling to breathe and was grateful that the fight ended,” while Garry felt he “was ready to continue.” Reflecting on the experience, Garry described his overriding emotion after the fight as “joy,” expressing significant pride and satisfaction in having faced what he labeled “the most dangerous fighter in the division” on short notice and delivering the performance he did.
In an interview with ESPN MMA, the Irishman contended that facing Shavkat “showed that I am definitely destined to become the best in the world, to become a champion.” He expressed anticipation for a future meeting, stating, “And the time will come when we meet again, and I will prove to the world that I am better as a fighter.”
In other news, Garry is scheduled to make his return to the octagon this upcoming weekend at the UFC on ESPN 66 event held in Las Vegas, USA. His opponent for this event will be Brazilian fighter Carlos Prates.
