Denain can breathe a sigh of relief! Almost two weeks after being handed a forfeit loss, the club has successfully had its victory from the match against Évreux on the 34th day of Élite 2 reinstated, following a decision by the FFBB Appeals Chamber this Wednesday.
To recap, coach Ali Bouziane, who was suspended for the match, remained in the team’s locker room for three minutes longer than permitted before the game. With this win now restored, ASDV boasts a record of 20 wins and 17 losses in the second division and is well-positioned to compete in the play-in.
Here is Denain’s statement on the news:
‘Denain Voltaire Basket acknowledges the decision rendered by the FFBB Appeals Chamber, which overturns the ruling made by the LNB’s Legal, Disciplinary, and Regulations Commission on April 29th in the case against ALM Évreux. The initial decision had declared a penalty loss for Denain Voltaire Basket in the J34 Elite 2 match.
The club thanks the Appeals Chamber for hearing the arguments presented by our club, its CEO, and our legal counsel.
This decision allows the club to recover an important victory, both sportingly and morally.
Our focus now turns to the court: one more battle remains to secure a play-in qualification at home this Friday, in front of our fans.’
Évreux Not Yet Safe from Relegation
While their safety in the league was presumed to be secured following this supposed forfeit win, ALM Évreux is still under threat of relegation to NM1. In fact, after their defeat against Quimper (102-83) this Friday, the Évreux team, with only one game left in the season, holds a slim one-win advantage over Les Béliers, who are currently in the relegation zone.
The Normans will face ADA Blois, who are in desperate need of a win to secure their podium spot for the playoffs. If Évreux loses to Blois, they will have to hope for a defeat from Quimper, who are visiting… Denain!
