University of Denver coach David Carle has reportedly turned down an interview request from the Toronto Maple Leafs. It is speculated that Carle might be holding out for a potential opening with the Colorado Avalanche, especially given recent questions surrounding Jared Bednar’s future with the team. Sources indicate that while the Maple Leafs had a positive initial conversation with Carle, he politely declined their offer for an interview, stating that now is not the right time for him to make a move.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Flyers are in need of a top-six center, a position facing a thin market as many pending UFAs are being re-signed. The Flyers are reportedly considering several long-shot trade targets. These include:
- Dylan Cozens (Ottawa Senators): Despite no clear indication of a trade, the Senators possess center depth and could benefit from defensive help. Their past interest in Rasmus Ristolainen might play a role, though the Flyers would likely need to offer more assets.
- Matty Beniers (Seattle Kraken): If Beniers were to become available, the Flyers should actively pursue discussions with the Kraken, regardless of the team’s current situation.
- Auston Matthews (Toronto Maple Leafs): Should Matthews express dissatisfaction with the Maple Leafs’ direction, a trade could be explored. A potential deal might involve Matvei Michkov and a future first-round pick (2027 or 2028) for the Leafs.
