Benjamin Adegbuyi: Badr Hari Knockout is Career Highlight Ahead of SENSHI 31

Benjamin Adegbuyi is preparing for SENSHI 31 in Bulgaria on May 30, where he will compete at the historic Ancient Theatre of Plovdiv. The Romanian heavyweight is slated to face Daniel Dinev in a super fight above 95 kg.

Adegbuyi’s Journey to SENSHI 31

Now 41 and known as “Mr. Gentleman,” Adegbuyi began his martial arts journey with karate at the age of 10. The rise of K1 significantly influenced his passion for kickboxing, even in Romania. His training regimen includes morning sessions for strength and evening sessions for kickboxing, incorporating sparring and combinations to maintain his sharpness. Adegbuyi emphasizes that he continues to learn and evolve in the sport.

He has twice challenged for the Glory heavyweight championship against Rico Verhoeven. A notable moment in his career was his third-round TKO victory over Badr Hari at Glory 76. Adegbuyi has also secured tournament wins at Glory 24 and Glory 50, boasting a 15-8 record within the promotion.

The Significance of the Badr Hari Knockout

Reflecting on his career highlights, Adegbuyi points to his tournament victories at the highest level of Glory, his two championship challenges against Rico Verhoeven, and particularly, his win against Badr Hari. These achievements underscore his sustained presence at the top for two decades. He also noted the impressive run of Zhulien Rikov in SENSHI. Adegbuyi believes that while Romania’s kickboxing scene mirrors Bulgaria’s, SENSHI represents the pinnacle of global kickboxing.

Adegbuyi credits physical conditioning for building his mental fortitude, stating that physical strength leads to mental resilience and confidence. He believes champions are defined by their total commitment. To unwind, he enjoys cooking and supporting his son’s basketball games. His perspective on life is grounded in gratitude, often reminding himself that there are always individuals facing greater challenges. For aspiring fighters, he advises them to “believe in yourself, never give up, and if you have a dream, be ready to sacrifice for it.” He anticipates a few more fights, with significant bouts planned for the following year.

Heading into his match against Daniel Dinev, the 14-time Bulgarian champion, Adegbuyi expresses confidence. “I feel confident and can’t wait to step back in the ring again,” he stated. He views SENSHI as an event synonymous with “honorable respect and sportsmanship.” His strategy is straightforward: “Just be myself because that’s all I need.” He anticipates a tough challenge from Dinev, aiming to bring out the best in his opponent to test himself: “Just to be prepared, I want his best version to test myself.” Fans can expect an exciting fight, with Adegbuyi warning that it “can finish in seconds.”

The SENSHI 31 card features an eight-man 70 kg Grand Prix, with quarterfinal matchups including Angelo Volpe vs. Samo Petje and Aissam Chadid vs. Bruno Gazani, followed by semifinals, a third-place bout, and the final. Other super fights on the card include a heavyweight bout between Mantas Rimdeika and Thomas Bridgewater, and a 75 kg clash between Bart Horvath and Atanas Bozhilov.
