A 21-year-old football player has tragically died following a severe collision with a goalkeeper during a match.
Helar Gonzales Altamirano was immediately hospitalized after being knocked unconscious in a clash while attempting to receive a long pass. His father was present at the pitch, witnessing the game.
His brother, Eliceo, who had been appealing for prayers for Helar on social media, sadly confirmed his passing yesterday.
According to Eliceo, Helar`s death resulted from a ruptured artery in his head, sustained during the incident on Sunday.
Real Titan Nc, Helar’s club, expressed their sorrow in a statement: “Rest in peace, friend. We will always remember your passion for football and love for your family. Your loss is deeply felt.”
The club also shared footage of Helar’s coffin being taken to a funeral home and a video compilation of his goals from this year.
The fatal collision occurred in the 70th minute of a Copa Peru game between Helar’s team and Defensor Nueva Cajamarca.
Video footage captured the scene as players gathered around him while he was stretchered off the field unconscious. He was then taken to a hospital in Moyobamba.
A commentator on TV expressed hope for his recovery as he was being transported away.
Helar’s father, Jose, tearfully thanked everyone for their support during this painful time. He shared that Helar had aspired to be a great footballer since childhood and was determined to go as far as possible in the sport. Jose believes Helar’s team will dedicate their future achievements to his memory.
Initially, Jose didn’t realize it was Helar who was injured in the collision. He wanted to go onto the field to be closer to his son but was not allowed. He finally saw Helar at the hospital, where he was already in critical condition.
Helar’s funeral is scheduled for Friday.
The Peruvian Football Federation conveyed their condolences on X, stating: “We regret the passing of Helar Gonzales Altamirano and send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and Real Titan Club.”
