Wayne Rooney has suggested that Spain would be a beneficial career move for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Alexander-Arnold, the England and Liverpool defender, has a contract expiring next summer, and there are rumors of a potential transfer from Anfield to Real Madrid for the 26-year-old.

Rooney also disclosed that he himself had considered a move to Spain during his career.
Speaking to BBC Sport, the former Manchester United and England captain stated, “Considering it`s Real Madrid, you can`t question it as a career progression.”
“Real Madrid is the biggest football club globally.”
“This would be a huge opportunity, and it`s understandable if he feels it`s too attractive to refuse.”
“Liverpool is his childhood club, but sometimes such decisions are necessary.”
“Back in 2010, when I informed Manchester United about my decision not to renew my contract and requested a transfer, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Barcelona were all interested.”
“I was prepared to play in Spain, and some discussions did occur.”
“A move to Real Madrid seemed more probable for a couple of days.”
“However, Barcelona was my primary consideration, especially how I would integrate into their team alongside players like Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Xavi, and Sergio Busquets.”
“Ultimately, I chose to remain at United, but Barcelona had an exceptional team, and any player would have been thrilled to be part of it.”
“Real Madrid is similarly appealing now with players like Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, and Vinicius Jr, making it very attractive for Alexander-Arnold.”
“Spain would indeed be a very positive move for him.”
Alexander-Arnold has received criticism from fans regarding this potential transfer.
Rooney added, “The fact that he might leave on a free transfer has upset fans, but that responsibility falls on both Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold.”
Reflecting on his own departure from Everton, his boyhood club, to join Manchester United in 2004, Rooney said, “It was a completely different situation for me.”
“I didn`t want to leave Everton at that time – I was heartbroken – but I knew I would eventually need to move to improve and win trophies.”
“This is another reason why Liverpool fans might question Alexander-Arnold`s potential departure now, as he is already achieving those goals with Liverpool.”
“But again, it`s about experiencing a different culture.”
Rooney`s former teammate, Rio Ferdinand, also commented to Liverpool fans: “This player has been one of your best. You should applaud him and acknowledge his contributions.”
