The Washington Capitals announced on Tuesday that defenseman Martin Fehervary will be sidelined for the remainder of the playoffs. This follows meniscus surgery he underwent on Monday, addressing an injury to his right knee sustained during the April 15 game against the New York Islanders.
The 25-year-old Fehervary had a productive season, setting career highs with 20 assists, 25 points, and a plus-18 rating over 81 games.
Since being drafted by the Capitals in the second round in 2018, he has played in 299 career games, registering a total of 75 points (22 goals, 53 assists) and a plus-13 rating.
To compensate for Fehervary`s absence, Washington is expected to turn to players such as Alexander Alexeyev, Ethan Bear, and Dylan McIlrath. The Capitals are currently ahead 1-0 in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference first-round series versus the Montreal Canadiens, with Game 2 scheduled for Wednesday night in Washington.
