UFC White House Fight Card Sparks Mixed Reactions

MMA News

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently announced the full lineup for its groundbreaking event, “UFC Freedom 250,” scheduled to take place on the South Lawn of the White House on June 14. This historic card has generated significant buzz, but its revealed matchups have drawn diverse responses from the mixed martial arts community.

Headlining the unique event will be a highly anticipated lightweight championship bout between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje. Gaethje, who previously secured the interim lightweight title during Topuria’s absence due to personal reasons, will now challenge “El Matador” to unify the undisputed belt.

In the co-main event, fans will witness a clash for the interim heavyweight title as Ciryl Gane faces Alex Pereira. “Poatan” Pereira, already a two-division champion, is aiming to make history by competing for a third championship in the promotion, a feat never before attempted.

Beyond these two major title fights, UFC Freedom 250 will feature four additional compelling matchups, completing an exciting night of action.

MMA Community Weighs In on UFC Freedom 250 Card

While expectations for the White House card were exceptionally high, with many hoping for appearances from major stars like Jon Jones, Conor McGregor, and other marquee names, the official announcement led to a spectrum of reactions. Some members of the MMA community expressed disappointment, feeling the card didn’t quite meet the enormous hype surrounding the event.

Boxer Ryan Garcia took to social media platform X, vocalizing his desire for bigger names:

“We need Nate Diaz vs Conor McGregor 3 UFC MAKE IT HAPPEN OR CANCEL THE WHITE HOUSE CARD NOW 😂😂😂”

He further elaborated:

“I was expecting the White House ufc card to be better not going to lie?? They shouldve went all out, you would think they would. I was hoping Jon jones, Connor, Alex Make America proud type shit 🤷‍♂️”

Fellow fighter Dillon Danis also offered a critical and sarcastic take on the announcement, particularly regarding one of the scheduled bouts:

“I almost fell out of my chair in excitement. Bo Nickal vs. Kyle Daukaus on the White House lawn OMG 😱😂”

He didn’t hold back his general opinion either:

“The White House card is pure shit 😂”

Paulo Costa’s reaction was brief and direct:

“F**k White House”

In contrast, despite not being selected to fight Michael Chandler as he had hoped for this event, Conor McGregor shared a more positive sentiment:

“A great card! #CantWait 🏦”

Derek Brunson also offered a unique perspective, playfully noting on X:

“The UFC White House card is the best fight card in the history of the White House ! 👀”
