UFC Set for July 25 Return to Abu Dhabi with New Fight Night

MMA News

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is returning to Abu Dhabi on Friday, July 25th, for a new Fight Night event. This latest installment will be held at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island, reinforcing the long-standing partnership that has established the UAE capital as a key international venue for the promotion.

The event, simply titled UFC Fight Night Abu Dhabi, will take place at the Etihad Arena, which has become the UFC’s primary location in the city. This event is a collaborative effort with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), continuing a successful and established agreement.

UFC Confirms Abu Dhabi Fight Night for July 25

Tickets are expected to go on sale soon, and fans are encouraged to pre-register on VisitAbuDhabi.ae for priority access. Organizers plan to offer combined hotel and ticket packages, particularly targeting international visitors looking to extend their fight week experience with a Yas Island getaway. As of May 18th, the UFC has not yet announced any specific fights for the card; a full lineup is anticipated in the coming weeks, as reported by The National and Gulf News.

This Fight Night continues a relationship that began in 2010 when Abu Dhabi first started hosting UFC events, aiming to become a major hub for live sports. Over the years, this collaboration has evolved into a consistent annual presence, with the city hosting pay-per-view events, Fight Nights, and fan-centric events surrounding the fight cards.

The partnership gained significant global recognition during the COVID-19 pandemic with “Fight Island.” This series of events, held on Yas Island under strict health protocols, allowed the UFC to continue hosting fights when many other regions were unable to do so. Events such as UFC 253 (Adesanya vs. Costa), UFC 254 (Nurmagomedov vs. Gaethje), and numerous Fight Nights were held there, showcasing Abu Dhabi’s capability to manage the complex logistical and medical requirements of elite international sports. This period solidified the city’s current standing in the UFC calendar as a reliable and government-supported destination.

In recent years, the Etihad Arena has hosted some of the UFC’s most prominent international events, including UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs. de Ridder in July 2025. This event featured a closely contested split-decision victory for Dutch champion Reinier de Ridder over former middleweight titleholder Robert Whittaker in the main event, highlighting the caliber of fights now being scheduled in Abu Dhabi. The undercard also included notable fighters such as Petr Yan, Sharabutdin Magomedov, Asu Almabayev, and Bogdan Guskov, offering a mix of former champions, ranked contenders, and emerging international talent.

Later in 2025, the city hosted a heavyweight bout between Tom Aspinall and Ciryl Gane during Abu Dhabi Showdown Week, further demonstrating the market’s capacity for title-contending and main event fights. Although the Aspinall vs. Gane main event ended in a no-contest due to an accidental eye poke, the week itself, which also included Mackenzie Dern winning the strawweight belt against Virna Jandiroba, reinforced the perception that championship moments are increasingly occurring in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi: A Priority Market for the UFC

From the UFC’s perspective, Abu Dhabi offers a compelling combination of government support, modern infrastructure, and an enthusiastic fanbase, making it a consistent fixture on the promotion’s international schedule. UFC President Dana White has even described Abu Dhabi as “part of the UFC’s DNA,” a sentiment he reiterated prior to UFC 321 held in the city last year.

Yas Island’s integrated entertainment landscape further supports this strategy. The Etihad Arena is situated near theme parks, hotels, and shopping centers, allowing visiting fans to easily combine fight attendance with other recreational activities during a long weekend. The city’s proven track record, from “Fight Island” to recent Showdown Weeks, has also contributed to fighter acceptance; athletes are familiar with the venue, travel arrangements, and the expected quality of facilities and crowd atmosphere.

Currently, the focus is on the fight card’s composition. With the July 25th date confirmed and no bouts announced yet, the UFC has flexibility in matchmaking, potentially featuring a middleweight or lightweight headliner, or a card that balances regional talent with established stars. Abu Dhabi’s history suggests that the event will likely be headlined by at least one significant bout, supported by a strong lineup of contenders and prospects from Europe, the Middle East, and beyond.

Anticipation for the July Fight Night is already high, even before the official fight announcements. The event signifies a continuation of a successful trend: Abu Dhabi has transitioned from an experimental venture to a regular, trusted stop for the UFC, where significant fights are confidently placed. The July 25th event at Etihad Arena is poised to extend this successful run.
