Toronto Maple Leafs Denied Permission to Interview Julien BriseBois

The Toronto Maple Leafs reportedly sought permission from the Tampa Bay Lightning to interview their General Manager, Julien BriseBois. However, their request was denied by the Lightning.

During a discussion on Sportsnet 590 The FAN, reporter Elliotte Friedman mentioned that the Maple Leafs had inquired about speaking with BriseBois. Matt Marchese questioned whether this was part of a broader search for potential candidates, suggesting that if they asked for BriseBois, they might as well have inquired about others.

Friedman acknowledged that the Maple Leafs’ pursuit of BriseBois was a “Hail Mary” attempt, and no one was surprised by the Lightning’s refusal. He speculated that while he believes BriseBois is a smart executive, he couldn’t definitively say if the Maple Leafs had approached other GMs, as information about these discussions is often kept confidential.

Regarding the timeline for the Maple Leafs’ GM decision, Friedman indicated he did not have a concrete answer but still assumed that either Brad Treliving or John Chayka would be hired, unless Treliving’s pursuit of Mats Sundin had fallen apart.

Marchese reiterated his curiosity about the strategic approach, wondering if the Leafs would cast a wider net in their search if they were willing to ask for permission to interview BriseBois. Friedman admitted he was unsure of the full extent of their inquiries, noting that many sources are currently not disclosing information.
