Topuria on Unlikelihood of UFC Tournament in Spain

MMA News

UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria has shared his perspective on why organizing a UFC tournament in Spain would be a difficult endeavor for the promotion.

According to Topuria, the primary obstacle lies in television rights. He explained that for a significant UFC event to take place outside of the United States, it needs to align with prime viewing hours for the American audience. This, however, would translate to a very early morning broadcast time of 4-5 a.m. for viewers in Spain.

Topuria expressed his reservations about hosting a tournament under such conditions. “I don`t think it`s realistic to hold a tournament at night,” he stated. “Even as an athlete, I am not comfortable with that. I have previously competed in similar time conditions in Abu Dhabi and, to be honest, it`s not an experience I wish to repeat.”
